What Is Dynamics 365 FAQs

 

Is Dynamics Part of Office365?

Kinda. While its not connected to Word and Excel's licensing model, it is part of the same platform meaning that the data is available across the same tenant.

Is Dynamics a SAAS?

Yes. Dynamics started out as an installable piece of software, however it has now matured into an online, Software As A Service - you subscribe to the software without worry about having to maintain racks of servers.


Is Dynamics an ERP?

No. An ERP traditionally manages accounting functionality as well as Enterprise Resources. While Dynamics365 can manage some aspects of enterprise resources, it does not have the logic for complex financial transactions. This would fall under the Dynamics Business Central or Dynamics Finance & Operations products from Microsoft.

Where is Dynamics 365 Hosted?

This depends on your needs. Microsoft has data center locations around the globe, meaning that you can select where you would like your data to be housed.


What Is A Model App?

A Model App refers to a collection of Interfaces & screen layouts that are made available to a selection of users. This will allow your sales team to have a different visual experience and navigation to your engineering team within the standard Dynamics 365 framework.

What is a Canvas App?

More recently we now have the ability to create an app capable of running on mobile devices, with layouts that are customized to the specific need of the user.


Can I use Dynamics 365 On Premise?

While this is technically still an option, the cost/benefit is very difficult to justify with the cost of hardware, maintenance, backups and other infrastructure required to run on premise.

Can I use Dynamics 365 Offline?

Yes and no. Dynamics contains features to allow specific data to be available offline (such as contact information and accounts) however there is a limited user experience where parts of the system rely or integrate with other Dynamics or Office365 features.

Power Platform is the new base of Microsoft Dynamics business applications providing a shared data platform with automation and services.

Functionally the power platform resides at the database level.

Is Microsoft Dynamics Free ?

While Dynamics is part of the Microsoft 365 infrastructure platform, sadly it is not free. While there is no ‘free' tier’, Microsoft do offer a 30 day trial to explore the product and its capabilities. I'd recommend, should you decide to do this, have a chat with a Dynamics consultant to guide you through the system so that you can get the most from your trial.

How Much Does Dynamics365 Cost?

This is a bit more complex to answer; check out our blog page that discusses various licensing options. If you really don’t want to click the link, the ball park is $12 - $122 per user per month for the CRM and service components with Marketing starting around the $1k/month.


How Can I Get My Dynamics License?

Licenses can be purchased through a couple of channels.

Can I Get Non-Profit Pricing?

You bet! If you’re a registered non-profit or charity organization, you may qualify for reduced cost licenses from Microsoft. This price difference can make a substantial impact to your monthly operating costs and is well worth exploring.
