Where is my Dynamics365 data being stored?

For some organizations, data sovereignty is paramount for their compliance team. Storing data within their country can be a legal requirement. So… where is your’s stored?

Applies to:

  • Dynamics 365 On-Prem

  • Dynamics 365 On-line

With Dynamics, the data is usually stored in the same data center as the main Office365 tenant. This is selected during the signup process and in most cases will default based on the billing address.

But how do you confirm this?

In the Portal Console

Your Dynamics data can be stored in different data centers to you main MS Office tenant. Head over to https://admin.powerplatform/microsoft.com and seclect the environments page.

Here you can see the Dynamics environments available in your tenant and which region they have been deployed to.

By Checking the URL

Your Dynamics 365 URL will actually denote where the data is stored.

In the following example, check the ‘CRM’ component of the URL.

https://orgname.crm3.dynamics.com

https://corpname.crm.dynamics.com

In the first example, the ‘crm3’ denotes that the data is stored in the Canadian data center. While in the latter example, ‘crm’ means that it is stored in the US data center.

Check your URL and compare to the list of Microsoft Dynamics data centers;
